Keuka Studios worked with the owners of this California home to create the perfect railing for their outdoor living space. Our clients live in Soquel, a town bordered by The Forest of Nisene Marks State Park and the Soquel Demonstration State Forest. With such beautiful natural surroundings, the homeowners wanted to optimize the views from their home.
Slate Deck Railing System:
To help the homeowners achieve their goal, we designed a cable railing system for their large slate deck. The deck overlooks the hills and forest and has a very natural look in and of itself. Its slate surface looks right at home against the lush hillside.
For the deck railing, the homeowners wanted something understated and simple. They chose our Ithaca Style cable railing which features slender, minimalist posts. The railing’s ultra-thin intermediate posts give the railing the necessary support while preserving its transparency. Our clients opted for “Dazzling Pewter” powder-coated steel for the posts. This gray finish has a very subtle appearance BS pairs nicely with the deck’s slate surface.
Furthermore, the Type 316 stainless steel cable infills blend right in with the deck’s surroundings. If you look out at the hills while lounging on the deck, the eyes easily see past the thin cables and focus on the landscape beyond.
Our team also customized a wood top rail for the deck railing system. The rail we designed is wide but thin, great for leaning against while taking in the views. Our clients selected IPE (also known as Brazilian walnut) for the rail because the wood species holds up well against natural weathering.
