Timber frame homes are an architectural staple of rural and mountainous regions. While design trends have come and gone, timber frame architecture has remained extremely popular. However, the style has been adapted to incorporate contemporary elements. For example, cable railing has become a favorite for decks on timber frame homes and cabins. Keuka Studios cable railing, particularly our curved Keuka Style railing, pairs perfectly with timber frame architecture because of its rustic appearance and the option to add a matching wood top rail. Furthermore, many timber frame homes have incredible vistas of mountain ranges, forests, or lakes. Our cable infill is nearly transparent and doesn’t obstruct these views. Thinking of modernizing your timber frame home? Take a look at these houses with our cable railing for design inspiration.

Cable Railing Ideas for Timber Frame Homes

Bald Mountain, New York

Our team designed and built a curved cable railing system and spiral staircase for this luxurious home in the mountains of New York. The “Dazzling Pewter” powder-coated steel railing posts and meranti wood top rail perfectly match the home’s timber frame exterior. Also, in combination with the floor-to-ceiling windows on the front of the home, the cable railing system preserves the incredible vista of the mountain range.

Adirondack Mountains, New York

This secluded lakefront residence has a unique exterior that combines steel, stone, and timber. For the deck railing, the homeowner wanted to embrace this industrial style and also preserve the view of the smooth lake. They chose our curved Keuka Style railing with “Texture Black” powder-coated steel posts and a mahogany top rail.

Nelson, British Columbia

This residence in Nelson, British Columbia is nestled between two mountain ranges and sits directly on Kootenay Lake. Because of the home’s unparalleled views, the owner wanted a transparent railing system for the timber frame deck. To comply with local building codes, our team designed a custom cable railing system that incorporates Lexan glass-like panels on top of the cable infill.
